Mornin' in your Eyes - 2D Character Animation (2019)

Mornin' in your Eyes is a WebGL-based game developed at the Tesseract Center for Immersive Environments and Game Design to teach U.S. history at the University of Arkansas. Our game won Silver in the Education category at the 2021 International Serious Play Awards. It plays as a visual novel which details the importance of news and conversation as key moments of the Civil Rights movement occur during the 1960's. I contributed a lot of artwork towards our game; featured here is some character animation I did for the "talksprites" for each person the player speaks to. This style of animation is rotoscoped from actors we worked with to help develop the characters into realistic people. I think the animation helps to showcase their personalities and demeanor far more than still images would. It also helps to distinguish them as our game is made in black and white to be cohesive with the articles and news-based information the player uses to progress.
